recently suffered total loss due to fire of my car and claimed on my insurance policy they came and valued the car after the accident and then took 300 quid off for policy excess however it clearly states in their policy that they cover permanently fitted radio/audio equipment
to max of 500 euro , fair enough so i submitted my claim to cover the radio which was destroyed with the car as a result of fire , cost of cd/radio was 149.00 in argos but company now say that their definition of permanently fitted radio is one that has been fitted in the factory when car was made but my car is secondhand and had a sony cd/radio fitted when i bought the car . Now they say this is not covered as is not classed as permanently fitted , to me a permanently fitted radio is one that you cannot take out of the car unless you are replacing it , some cd/mp3 players are easily removed for security and can be taken from the car each evening but this is not the case with mine
Anyone else out there been taken for a ride by their insurance company , was thinking of legal action as they should have specified factory fitted radio in their advertising instead of permanently fitted
Had arguement with them for 30 mins but they kept saying that the radio/audio had to be factory fitted from newArgument with car insurance company any advice?
if an dwhen you add parts to a car upgrade it to insurance if not they go by what a stock car price then you just lost what you added and nothing you can do about thatArgument with car insurance company any advice?
Check the full policy documents. In your policy it will usually have definitions of all the terms used in the policy, if it says that ';permanently fitted'; parts have to be original, then you're out of luck. If it doesn't then you might have a chance taking it to someplace like the Better Business Bureau, or small claims court.
Well if you knew that the radio / CD was not the original when you bought the car, what answer did you give to the question ';Has the car been modified?'; on your insurance documentation, as fitting an after market item is modifying your car.
I suggest you dig out your policy and actually READ it -- it will state in plain black and white what the definition of 'permanently fitted electronics' is. You may be dealing with an idiot claims adjuster OR, you may be wrong.
You should have let them know about the upgrade the instant it happened. You demonstrated that the audio gear isn't permanently fitted.
This is a lesson learned.
Thats not right at all the wording of Permantly fitted stereo does NOT mean ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT! The wording is all wrong contest that with them. Every one of their customers would assume that their Car stereo was covered no matter whether original or retro fitted
Permanently Fitted is not the same as Factory Fitted. I would stick to my guns and inform them that their wording error is not your problem so they should pay out.
