Being an XO sucks man. It really does, all you do is work your butt off to make the commander look good. It sucks, but necessary. Talk to your 1SG and the outgoing XO, they will be your best bet to be successful in your new unit.Looking for advice on being an xo for an mp company. Check out http://platoonleader.army.mil/. It should have some resources for you to use and also give a forum to talk to your peers. Best person to ask for advice - your CO. Ask him/her what their expectations are and what success is.
