Rights when owning a company, advice please?

i purchased a company name through a website, and registered it with company house. I have all the relevant certificates etc. The company is dormant, HMRC are aware of this, and it is unlikely I will ever activate it. I have jsut received a threatening letter from Germany, saying they own this name and I have committed an offence and I must transfer the name to them immediately. I have notified them that the company isn't active, but they have replied insisting i sign the domain name over to them. The said they have the patent in the name. I am not trying to be this company they are talking about, and why was the name available to purchase here with no issues? can anyone advise me where I stand please.Rights when owning a company, advice please?
To be honest,if the business is in Germany I don't know why they feel they have a claim unless they trade internationally

Anyway, why was the domain name for sale, if it wasn't dormant ??

Don't give in to harassment like this, without checking out THEIR

credentials

Even if you had the same name as a business in the UK, it's registered at Companies House under the location of its head office, eg- its registered business address

It all sounds a bit 'dodgy' if you ask meRights when owning a company, advice please?
Ask them to send you a copy of the patent, then take it to a solicitor.
This sounds very dodgy. Companies House won't let you register a company that's already registered to someone else. Potentially, there's a scam going on with the website that sold you the name.

You mention a domain name. Is this in addition to the company name? This is a completely different area from company law.

Try your local CAB as a starting point. They may be able to give you a free half hour with a solicitor, who will advise you whether you need to take this further.

Good luck!
Sorry. You need a lawyer to straighten this out. They may or may not have a valid claim.
